Alpha – My Unraid Machine

As self-proclaimed nerd and Software Developer, my very own server is the centre of my homelab. It helps me to develop my various projects, keep my media in check and enables me to tinker around the clock!

Hardware

Starting with the easy stuff, the hardware! The Server is powered by a Threadripper 1950X (12C/24T), 64GB Memory, 2.5TB Flash Storage and 18TB in Hard Drive Storage. A 1TB write cache helps to saturate my 10GbE connection at home and a simple 1050 drives the video output. A Geforce 1080Ti idles most of the time, but the two HBA cards are working hard.

Software

Now to the exciting part, what am I using it for! For once there is my Smart Home stuff.

  • 3 Instances of I/O Broker to control various light, heater and sensors. An instance for each member of my family.

To keep the family happy and the internet connection not saturated to 100%, I am also using some caches to store stuff from the web locally.

  • Docker Registry Proxy: A nice application developed by rpardini to store Docker Image Blobs locally. I am using a fork by gw0 to enable upstream authentication.
  • Lancache DNS/Monolith: Helpful to store game blobs locally. Together with the Prefill Applications, it is an extreme useful tool.
